Fiona at Work
I.J. Rosenhead the Chemist

Three of us behind the counter. Sometimes, that isn't enough!

Home from home. Well, not quite. This is where I work - HARD.

When the comment that one day, there will be only 14 names on the high street was made, places such as this weren't taken into account. At the bottom of Leicester Road (Salford 7), is a parade of independant retailers who serve the local community. One such retailer is the local pharmacy, I.J. Rosenhead.

I've worked here for some 17 years now, and have enjoyed nearly all of it! (Who doesn't have bad days?)

Some stores serve aspirational customers, food stores are there to appease hunger. Customers come to us because they're often unwell. It's my job to provide them with whatever is best for what ails them. If they come in with a prescription, then that's Mr. Rosenheads department. He'll not only make up the prescription as quickly as possible, but also ensure that you know how to take the medication properly and safely. One of the wonders of a pharmacy is not only the number of items held, but just how quickly we can obtain an item not in stock.

But it's not only the medical side of things that I deal with. I have to know which shampoo is suitable for which hair type, which film fits your camera, (and yes, we process them as well... and digital cards too!), what diapers suit your baby, as well as dealing discretely with all sorts of enquiries.

This is my boss, Ian J. Rosenhead. Having worked for him for so long, I'm either easy to please (I'm NOT) or he's a fair and reasonable employer.

Some days I suspect he thinks the relationship is the other way round.

From the outside, just another local community store. Inside, a bustling hive of activity, where the efficient team of eager assistants seek to ensure that you leave with the means to be healthier soon.
